BTECH Updates: COVID19
Dear BTECH Family,
As a community we have to be proactive about ways we will respond as the needs of our school evolves. Our faculty and staff echo many of your sentiments during these challenging times and are working hard to develop a contingency plan for distance learning.
Staying Up to Date
The safety and the well-being of the entire school community is my highest priority, but we have to follow the guidance of the Department of Education. The DOE provides daily updates as well as access to important materials, including fact sheets, Q&A documents, and slides prepared for a highly informative webinar with Dr. Daniel Stephens, Deputy Commissioner for Division of Family and Child Health of the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH). This is all available on the DOE Infohub website. Please review this information as necessary.
BTECH will continue to send messages through the Remind App, School Messenger Robo Calls, Direct Email Addresses, Social Media platforms and our school website. Please ensure that you are connected with us on all our platforms for most updated information.
Pupilpath is the academic platform BTECH uses to connect families to student progress and academic related concerns. Should BTECH transition into an online platform for instruction, it is imperative that all our students and our parents use this platform to receive information pertaining to academic performance and instruction. If you do not have access to Pupilpath please reach out to us at 718-217-3613 or firstname.lastname@example.org for your directions to gain access.
Off Campus Technology Support for Students
Currently BTECH laptops are administratively protected by the DOE which does not allow for software updates and connection to wifi to be accessible outside the school building. As a result, we are unable to sign these laptops out and ensure you will have full access. The city has provided a link for students to sign up for a device. Any student who is in need of a device, should fill out the form. City Laptop Request Link
Learning at Home
The BTECH faculty are working diligently this week to ensure that any content that we deliver is accessible online based on the increase in student absences. If you choose to keep your child at home, they are still responsible for content being delivered, please ensure they are checking their teachers’ Google classroom and Pupilpath.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Student-Led Conferences will take place either by phone or video conferencing. No parent is expected to attend BTECH on Thursday. All students will be dismissed at 11:15am. You should have reserved your time slot by Monday. The link is below: https://sites.google.com/btechnyc.org/btech-slc/home
QCC’s Instructional Recess and Distance Learning
For parents of students enrolled at QCC, you should have received a letter about the instructional recess period and CUNY’s shift to distance learning. The letter also outlines how we will support our students during this transition.
Non- instructional events
All non-instructional events are postponed until further notice, including 100 days to Graduation celebration, talent show, assemblies, PSAL etc. We will also postpone all other afterschool activities, Saturday School and tutoring at this time.
We have outfitted every classroom with Clorox wipes, hand sanitizers and soap dispensers are stocked in bathrooms and checked throughout the day. The custodial staff engage in deep cleaning twice a week, in addition to their daily cleaning practices.
The BTECH staff share a unique challenge of trying to manage our professional responsibilities as educators and leaders, supporting the well-being of our students and our own personal well-being and that of our families.
Be assured, that we are doing everything we can to respond to the challenges we face as best as we can. We thank you for your support during this time. Be safe BTECH family!
